Libras Administration glossary: discussion on the collection, registration and publication of sign-terms

This works presents the production of a Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) glossary, in Brazilian Portuguese and Libras focusing on the production of specific sign-terms in the Administration area. It will use Faulstich’s (2012) concept of a sign term. The investigation follows, as a paradigm, the lexicographic research on Libras by Martins (2012) and Martins (2018), which is to collect, to register and publicize signs or term-signs that are already being used by the deaf community that, in this work, can be from the state of Rio Grande do Sul or Paraná. In other words, this work does not intend to create or validate new signs. This work was based on a lexical lack of specific terms in the translation process during classes in UFPel’s Administration course, which was reported by a deaf student, as well as the institution’s sign language interpreters, who always had to choose translation strategies such as: spelling in the manual alphabet or combining signs. The steps for the production of the glossary involved: 1) interviews with a deaf student to collect terms in Portuguese for which there were no sign-terms; 2) the collection of sign-term with ten deaf collaborators, administration students or graduated; 3) the organization of a questionnaire in which the sign-terms, and their variations, were presented to the collaborators for vote; 4) production of terminology records; 5) publicization of the sign-terms. Of 25 terms in Portuguese, 102 sign-terms were collected. For each sign-term a terminology record was produced. The terminology records suggest more accessibility and new search options such as a QR code search and an available link to Youtube, which considers the visuospatial characteristics of Libras.
