Tradução e interpretação em Libras-português em museus de arte de Fortaleza: práticas, desafios e perspectivas

This dissertation investigates the scope of action of Libras-Portuguese Translators and Inter- preters (TILSP) in art museums in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará, with an emphasis on building accessible practices and guaranteeing the linguistic rights of the deaf community. Based on the author’s professional experience in museum institutions, such as the Museum of Contemporary Art of Ceará and the Pinacoteca do Ceará, the study, which is qualitative, descriptive, and (auto)biographical in nature, analyzes strategies, challenges, and institutional policies involving the presence and role of professional Portuguese Sign Language translators and interpreters (TILSP) in these spaces. The study is rooted in Sign Language Translation and Interpretation Studies (ETILS), engaging with concepts such as intermodal, interlingual, and intercultural translation, as well as interpretation. The research reveals the absence of specific regulations for the activity of TILSPs in museums and highlights the need for structured language policies, spe- cialized training, and institutionalization of these professionals in the cultural sector. The study proposes guidelines for the consolidation of inclusive practices and reinforces the commitment of museums to linguistic diversity, cultural citizenship, and equitable access to art.
