The teaching of philosophy to the deaf from a bilingual perspective (libras/written Portuguese)

In our exhibition we will demonstrate how philosophy can understand the education of the deaf and, based on this understanding, promote more accessible methodologies and didactics for the teaching of philosophy to the deaf. In our theoretical repertoire of a philosophical nature, we will make use of the critical theory of the British Philosopher Paddy Ladd, described in his work “In Search of Deafness” where he presents the colonizing influence of clinical ideological discourse on deaf communities. The importance of his thinking consists in revealing the power structures that intend to standardize the deaf person to the hearing condition, seeking to “normalize” their disability as the only indispensable condition of socialization. In our philosophical and anthropological understanding of the subject, we will make use of the Philosophical Anthropology of the Brazilian philosopher Henrique Cláudio Lima Vaz, as a key to reading the profile of the deaf subject in his linguistic condition.
