Resumo
Objective: To reflect about the role of nursing in health care for deaf patients. Method: A descriptive, reflective analysis study, based on a review of the bibliographic databases LILACS, Scopus and SciELO, with eight studies chosen. Results: Communication is a fundamental requirement for the effectiveness of health care, influencing the assistance of deaf patients by nurses who, in most cases, do not have training for communication in LIBRAS. In view of this, the training of nursing professionals is reiterated, together with the process of including sign language in the curriculum of undergraduate nursing and health courses as strategies to reinforce the social inclusion of deaf people in social life. Final considerations: Training in sign language for nurses and other professionals is a prerogative for the quality of care provided, enabling the provision of more humanized care, based on universality, equity and integrality, through the establishment of effective communication and a patient-professional bond.
