QUÍMICA PARA DISCENTES SURDOS: UMA LINGUAGEM PECULIAR

This article aims to discuss the characteristics of being deaf , joins the knowledge about the sign languages with the content developed on the Elementary Education about Chemistry and suggests the adoption of the Arch Method, by Charles Maguerez, presented by Bordenave e Pereira (1982). We highlight that the Chemistry teaching for deaf , by sign language, possess its difficulties, specially the chemical symbols and the specific terms, often used in this subject, because they don’t possess matching signs in LIBRAS. That difficulty is complemented by the lack of understanding and interpretation of the Portuguese Language and the difficulties related to the  text coherence and cohesive whole  and, so, the deaf  students don’t easily understand the content context present on the teaching materials, based on the written, used on the Chemistry teaching.
