PEDAGOGIA E DIDÁTICA SURDA: POR UMA EDUCAÇÃO BILÍNGUE COM LETRAMENTO VISUAL E ENSINO DE PORTUGUÊS NA MODALIDADE ESCRITA

EnglishThe objectives of the article are: (i) to present philosophical and linguistic issues that have built the history of Education for the Deaf in Brazil; (ii) to identify teaching strategies used in the Education of the Deaf throughout history; and (iii) to discuss visual literacy and the teaching of written Portuguese, from the perspective of bilingual education for the deaf. The article is based on the theoretical perspective of Deaf Studies, within the scope of linguistic/educational policies and bilingual education. The results show that: (i) Libras and Portuguese must be guaranteed as a linguistic right; (ii) Libras must be the language of instruction and Portuguese must be taught in written form; (iii) teachers must be fluent in both languages; (iv) visual literacy must encompass deaf visuality in the teaching-learning process; and (v) the teaching of Portuguese should include several textual genres, with daily themes, experienced by the students. portuguesOs objetivos do artigo sao: apresentar questoes filosoficas e linguisticas que construiram a historia da Educacao de Surdos no Brasil; identificar estrategias de ensino utilizadas na Educacao de Surdos ao longo da historia; e discutir o letramento visual e o ensino da escrita do Portugues, sob a perspectiva da educacao bilingue de surdos. O artigo fundamenta-se na perspectiva teorica dos Estudos Surdos, no âmbito das politicas linguisticas/educacionais e da educacao bilingue. Os resultados apontam que: (i) a Libras e o Portugues devem ser assegurados como direito linguistico; (ii) a Libras deve ser a lingua de instrucao e o Portugues, ensinado na modalidade escrita; (iii) os professores devem ser fluentes nas duas linguas; (iv) o letramento visual deve abarcar a visualidade surda no processo de ensino-aprendizagem; e (v) o ensino de Portugues deve contemplar diversos generos textuais, com tematicas cotidianas e experenciadas pelos alunos.
