Contação de histórias para as crianças surdas em Libras

The historical trajectory shows the need for deaf people to live in a community. This research will address the contact of deaf children with sign literature. It aimed to show the partial results of the data production of the extension project entitled 'Telling Stories in Libras', which began in 2020, carried out at the Maria Antônia Municipal School. Through storytelling in Sign Language, deaf children come to understand and acquire knowledge of visual culture and deaf identity through literary works and storytelling. The specific objectives are: To acquire Brazilian Sign Language through contact with the deaf adult instructor; To recognize oneself as deaf through the reference of the deaf adult teacher; To contribute to the formation of deaf culture and identity in children through deaf literature. The methodology used was based on post-critical research in education, using the assumptions of types of readings that prioritize valuing deaf culture and identity and, in this context, its acquisition by deaf children. The presence of an adult deaf professional was important in this school monitoring for the acquisition of sign language and deaf reference for their education. Based on the preliminary results of this research and arguments cited throughout this production, it can be concluded that deaf literature plays an important role in the constitution of the deaf being, their subjectivity and in the linguistic development of deaf children.
