Atuação dos tradutores e intérpretes de Libras no processo tradutório dos conteúdos de Ciências Biológicas

The present research analyzed how the Translators and Interpreters of Libras - TIL are acting
in the translation process of the contents of Biological Sciences. Knowing that the
performance of this professional is entirely tied to the learning of the deaf student and that
when it comes to the contents of Biological Sciences, this process requires even more
attention and caution, since these contents approach a very great diversity of concepts and
many of them are far from of the students and must be passed in the classroom so that the
learners are not deprived of knowledge. In view of this scenario, our objective was to
understand the role of the translators and interpreters of Libras in the translation process of the
Biological Sciences contents, understanding how this action can affect the teaching and
learning of the deaf student. As a methodological process, we carried out bibliographical and
qualitative researches and a case study, where TILs and Biology teachers were interviewed
from a school in the city of Gravata - PE, which attends elementary school final grades and
has a great demand for deaf students. The research pointed out that the translation process of
the Biological Sciences contents carried out by the TILs is not being executed, as it should,
the research also showed us several factors that affect this process, besides the poor formation
of the TILs, we have the absence of the teachers in the participation of the learning of the
Deaf students. Our considerations have shown us that in this context, the only disadvantage is
the deaf student, since during his completely educational career he will have a gap in
knowledge, especially in Biology.
